Human Resources Generalist

This newly created position will be responsible for performing Human Resource related duties on a professional level, working closely with Flat World leadership in supporting company Human Resource activities with responsibilities including: employee recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, performance management, policy implementation, and employment law compliance.

Essential Functions

  1. Conduct recruiting efforts supporting new-hire strategies, including initial candidate screening, interview scheduling and follow-up, and maintenance of related records.

  2. Conduct new-hire orientations including explanation of benefits plans and options, enrollment processes, and new-hire administrative processing. Organize and schedule orientation of company culture, capabilities, and operating units, and assist direct leadership in planning new-hire training schedule.

  3. Administer company-wide health and welfare benefit plans, including enrollments, updates, and terminations. Process required documentation with payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping, proper deductions, audits, etc... When necessary, connect with company outsourced COBRA administrator for COBRA administration. Manage FMLA processes.

  4. Ensure employee understanding of benefits programs (including 401K opportunities) through regularly generated communications, and counseling employees/dependents as situations arise. Address and update company benefits portal as necessary. Resolve employee concerns related to health and welfare plans, referring difficult or complex concerns to leadership.

  5. Manage annual open benefit enrollment period each year, as well as any mid-term benefit transitions. Arrange for distribution of plan summary materials and required notices, assist with communicating changes to employees and arrange for onsite representation by providers. Conduct employee presentations. Process changes within deadlines.

  6. Act as a resource for payroll/HR contacts to ensure employee understanding and compliance with benefits, HR policies, and regulations. Keep management advised of potential problem areas and recommend/implement solutions as appropriate.

  7. Assist leadership in meeting annual review processes, monitoring the performance evaluation programs, and participating / supporting those programs as necessary.

  8. Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory. Maintain up to date company email and telephone directory. Support employee wide meetings and events as needed.

  9. Coordinate and assist with the ACA and ERISA benefits reporting requirements, and maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

  10. Participate in administrative team meetings, support leadership strategies with individual teams, and attend other meetings and seminars as required.

Secondary Functions

  1. Write, revise, edit and proofread leadership requested changes to company policies and procedures and related documents as needed. Use electronic benefits bulletin board and other vehicles to communicate information.

  2. Conduct exit interviews in absence of supervisor, assist with outplacement services, and employment history confirmation requests.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities to begin with. Employee growth may require this skill in the future.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


Flat World has locations in St Louis, Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta which may require some travel throughout the year.

Required Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree and one to two years of HR experience, or three to five years of experience in the HR field.

Preferred Education and Experience

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential. Experience working with outsource HR providers such as Paychex and Integrated Payroll Services

Salary Range / Reports to:

Salary of $45,000 - $50,000 annually, commensurate with experience, reporting to the Flat World Holdings Chief Executive Officer

Invoice Audit and Implementation

Flat World Supply Chain has an opening on our Audit and Implementation team. We are seeking a motivated person with previous experience in the transportation industry. The Auditor position will consist of many responsibilities including auditing of freight invoices, creating customer invoicing and statements and interpreting freight tariffs and contracts. This is a full time position. Key duties include but are not limited to:

  • Audit freight carrier invoices.
  • Interpret freight tariffs and contracts.
  • Investigate and recognize errors on freight carrier invoices and resolve discrepancies.
  • Create customer invoices and statements.
  • Maintain customer portfolio on a weekly basis
